By the 23rd century however, such weapons became obsolete, as the Type-2 Hand Phaser became standard issued. Inside was the power cell for the weapon and could be made to overload and do a great deal of damage when detonated. Like weapons of the past, the Phase Pistol took on the form of a pistol-like appearance, but with a lock breach like an old time double-barreled shotgun.
The only difference between the two weapons was that where as Phasers utilized a stun, kill and vaporize setting, this weapon however couldn't and only used stun and kill settings. The weapon fired a beam of orange energy, similar to that of 24th century phasers. The Phase Pistol was first introduced by the 22nd century, a precursor to the Type-2 Hand Phaser of the 23rd and 24th centuries. O'Neill wasted no time either, diving to the ground beside the ditch as she drew her own phase pistol and turned toward the intruder who had appeared so.
